AINTAP (Gaziantep) Capital of Yemeni Shoes in Turkey
Dating back to the 4th millennium BC, Gaziantep has traces of Hittite settlement that continued until 1183, when it was conquered by Turkish tribes. Until then, it was predominantly a Syrian town called 'Hamtap'. The Ottoman Empire occupied this place in the early 16th century and named it 'AINTAP', meaning 'good spring'. Later, with the Ottoman Empire, people started to make YEMENI SHOES in AINTAP and since then, AINTAP has been the capital of YEMENI SHOES.
AINTAP, which was under the control of the Ottoman Empire for 4 centuries, was then wanted to be occupied by the French in 1920, but after 2 years of defense, the Turks removed the French troops from their lands in 1922 and the word 'Gazi' was added by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and it became Gaziantep.
However, before these times, Gaziantep was ruled by Assyrians, Persians, Romans, Byzantines and Abbasids.
